Closed Editing Avatar (Windows 8)

I've tried again and again to change the avatar picture, and it just will not work. I'm assuming this has to do with the insanely clunky Windows 8. Clicking the "browse files" option does quite literally nothing, and when I resort to using a URL, it tells me the file is invalid.

I've searched for people with similar issues, but come up empty handed. Does anyone know how to help?

Perhaps it is the size? The picture must be no more than 80 by 80 pixels or 19.5 kb. There are web sites where you can downsize images which is how I got my avatar.

The image fits within the size contraints. I just don't get the option to browse for it or select it.

Have you tried contacting Microsoft, as they might be able to help?
