A drive by the Kenyan government to kill up to 6 million Red-billed Quelea with pesticide could impact endangered raptors.

An ongoing drought in the Horn of Africa has reduced the amount of native grass, the seeds of which are the queleas' main food source. This has prompted millions of the birds to move to grain fields – putting some 800 ha of rice fields under threat. So far, around 120 ha of rice fields have been decimated by queleas.
