Is Roopa now deceased ... as only 2.3 have been listed for the past 1 or 2 months now ....?

Yes, sadly, the Indian rhinoceros 'Roopa' has died.....

I estimate her age at 38 but I can't remember her exact year of birth. I think she was the first birth at Delhi zoo- there is an article in one of the earlier zoo yearbooks.

Roopa produced a total of eight calves at Whipsnade with the bull 'Kumar' but only 4 (all males) survived. One is at Berlin, another in Spain.

I wonder if her death means no more rhinos will live in the older accomodation, and if so, what will replace them?

‘Roopa’ was born in Delhi Zoo on 27th January 1971; she arrived at Whipsnade on 6th February 1973.
