Exciting changes are underway at the bull elephant house at Port Lympne Wild Animal Park in Kent. The house is home to Kruger, the park’s 26 year old bull African elephant. His indoor quarters are being improved and expanded in a large scale project stretching across several weeks.

Renovations include raising the roof and expanding the interior by removing the existing framework of steel. The exposed windows will be reinforced with metal grates. In addition an area of windows will be plated over to allow for 20-30 tons of sand to be banked up against the wall for Kruger to interact with and to encourage him to lie down. One of the doorways will also be sealed shut and reinforced and three large skylights will be installed to allow more natural light into the building.
