Elephant Parade London

I was just wondering how many of you have been following the Elephant Parade that's going on in London?

I think it's an interesting marketing piece to try and raise awareness of conservation issues although I do question it's effectiveness.

The pieces (all 258 of them) are certainly eye catching but I don't think it's entirely clear what they're all supposed to represent. Some of them make it perfectly clear, particularly a couple outside of the Natural History Museum, but others are just, well, fanciful artwork.

The large pieces themselves are being auctioned off (starting at £500 a piece) whilst replicas are being made and sold at a few locations around the city. All proceeds are going towards elephant conservation and 20 UK conservation charities.

They've got the backing of a few notable organisations, including the International Year of Biodiversity campaign and the Aspinall foundation.

Has anyone else been out trying to spot them? What are your thoughts/feelings on the whole affair?

I like it and enjoy spotting them all over the place. Some of them are beautifully designed, others are a bit random.

I noticed that the gift shop on regents street was packed, I think the replicas make a good souvenir for tourists and if the proceeds are going to charity that can only be a good thing although I think people just see them as a random art project like the cows in the past and probably aren't really aware of why it is being done.

It would be nice to have one at the zoo!
