enclosure size equals home range or territory in the wild

I doubt many zoos do because the main reason why animals have such large territories in the wild is because they have to search that area for food. This is something that the public don't seem to realise.... :|

I agree with you 100% in fact any animal that has all the 'comodities' will restrict itself within a much smaller area. This is similar to wild animals coming near urban areas. Although the bounaries between humans and animals have come very close. Once these animals realize that they have all that they need in one place, then it is not convenient to roam around for days maybe looking for food.

This of course will not apply for food only. If they find confortable shelter, lack or separation from their natural predators, good place to raise their offspring etc..... of course any species as an individual or group would prefer remaining in a smaller area.
