Two Vermont environmental groups are suing the Agency of Natural Resources, saying the state failed to adequately protect five threatened and endangered bat species from pesticides sprayed to eliminate mosquitoes.
The Vermont Natural Resources Council and Center for Biological Diversity say the Brandon-Leicester-Salisbury-Goshen-Pittsford Insect Control District sprays toxic insecticides in the habitat of the Indiana bat, northern long-eared bat, little brown bat, eastern small-footed bat and tricolored bat. All five bat species are protected by Vermont's Protection of Endangered Species Act.
