An interesting category with much to discuss - HOOFSTOCK.

Let's see what you all make of it :)

That is definitely another very tough match, where minor details make the difference and imo everything other than 3:2 in one direction is out of place.

Wilhelma has probably an advantage at the stock list with more rarities (Okapi, Bongo, Wild ass, Malayan tapir, Mesopotamian deer or Pere Davids deer for example).

Even after the recent arrival of the Golden takins i would say, that Schönbrunns stock list is more basic. On the other hand Viennas (historical) exhibits have definitely way more charm than Stuttgart and their sheer endless use of concrete. In particular the pachyderm exhibits are better at Vienna (Although the elephants wouldn't count as particular good either and the hippo indoor is also pretty small).

I'm very unsure about my final vote and hope for further discussion.

I’ve only visited Vienna out of the two and even then am very unsure what to make of it - Vienna definitely has strengths in this category - thinking the whole left side of the zoo with the rhinos, Barbary sheep, takin, nilgai and so on. Then it has a multitude of exhibits that are on the small side but in such a lovely historical setting that many people are willing to forgive it. Personally I liked the converted giraffe house but otherwise I think the hoofstock exhibits in that zone could definitely be better, but I have no idea how they could be improved. Tough one. Hippo exhibit was a lot better than I remembered apparently (from pictures from a previous match) and elephant exhibit is honestly not fantastic but no idea how it compares to Stuttgart’s. There are definitely some very good bits and bobs at Vienna though in this category. Are domestic cattle allowed? If so there’s also the genuinely lovely farmyard area at the top of the zoo, which I really enjoyed actually.

We've historically accepted domestic animals within this category in the past - see, for instance, llamas, camels and yaks.

Anyone fancy doing a more comprehensive breakdown of what the two collections have to offer?

From ZTL:

Wilhelma:

Schönbrunn:

I initially voted for Wilhelma based on the collection, but after some research I found the enclosures from Vienna better in my opinion. I do really like the mountain ungulate enclosures from Stuttgart.

@Philipine eagle - A lot of the enclosures in the Rotunda contain Hoofstock. They might not be the biggest, but they are still decent with excellent views and fantastic architecture.
Species: Blesbok, Burchell's Zebra, Common Eland, Kirk's Dik-dik, Mhorr Gazelle, Nyala

@lintworm, @Philipine eagle - A good outdoor enclosure for the Common Hippopotamus, with a decent, but lightly criticised indoor enclosure.

@lintworm - A fantastic and large enclosure for Asian hoofstock, with the Rhino as the headliner. This enclosure is by far superb against what I thought was a simple paddock in Wilhelma.
Species: Indian Rhinoceros, Blackbuck, Nilgai, Vietnamese Sika Deer

@Maguari - A nice enclosure for Vicuna.

@Philipine eagle, @twilighter - An African Elephant enclosure with a pretty good indoors and a decent outdoors compared to Stuttgart.

@Maguari - Domestic Reindeer enclosure.

Note that I have yet to visit either collection, so misunderstandings are possible, but I feel quite confident in my overview of Vienna.
