Exhibit name ideas

Not sure where to put this so I will put this thread here.

I like to make fake zoos..often I can’t think of a name for a exhibit or something..so I thought let’s make a thread where people can post names for exhibits for people who could need ideas for exhibit names.

Here are some exhibit names I thought of:

The Snowy Ridge Aviary
The Asian Trek
Reptile Discoveries
The Bamboo Trek
African Plains Adventure

(You can use those names if you want to if your ever making a zoo :))
 
I could care less what zoos name their Exhibits, and find it a fairly superfluous thing to talk about. Yes, theming is important. But does it really matter if an area is called "African Adventure" or "Wild Africa"?

I was thinking it could be a zoo's African exhibit, elephants, lions, gorillas, zebras, flamingos, and antelope could all be incorporated somehow. A separate building could house African and non-African species, like meerkats, naked mole rats, social spiders, weaver birds, bats, honeybees, leaf cutter ants, and waterfowl/waterbirds
 
Recently, after returning to and thus, rediscovering this long-dormant thread. It soon gave me an idea that I should’ve done a long time ago. More specifically, the following were names that I originally reserved to be used for my exhibit showcase thread; but after making the decision to end development on said thread. I thought that these names should have a new purpose. Which is why I am going to share these names with all of you; especially since I no longer plan to use them for any personal project.

Now as for these names I’ve promised, listed below were the ones that are the most interesting from a conceptual standpoint:


• Cats of the World - (a modern take on a traditional ‘cat house’)

• Animals Among Us - (an urban-themed complex based around human-wildlife coexistence)

• Stories of the Southwest - (a North American-themed desert house)

• The Vanishing Prairies - (named after the True-Life Adventure documentary of the same name; minus the s)

• Lobos Del Cerrado - (themed to the Brazilian Cerrado, with the Maned Wolf being the marquee animal)

• Salish Shores - (a Pacific Northwest-themed complex; featuring typical marine life native to the region)

• Back From The Brink - (a conservation-focused complex which highlights iconic animals that were saved from extinction, via, the Endangered Species Act of 1973)

• Jungle Journey - (an enormous complex themed around the world’s major tropical rainforests)

• Arabian Wilds - (a unique complex that highlights some of the most notable fauna of the Arabian Peninsula)

• Africa After Dark - (an African-themed nocturnal house)

• South Africa’s Cape Coast - (a self-explanatory complex featuring animals like the African Penguin)

• Realm of the Rodent - (a unique, and modern take on a traditional ‘small mammal house’ themed entirely to the largest* group of mammals)

(Also, I agree that this should be moved to the spec zoo forum; even if the creator of this thread is no longer an active member)

I really like all of those, especially as a lot of them are for more specific and unique exhibits ideas.
 
I also like giving all my regions names when fantasy zoo-ing. Something I like to do is to translate names into the language of the area I'm representing in the zoo. This usually works quite well, like with my Amazon greenhouse, O Rio Dourado; the Golden river in Portuguese, tying back to how the invading Europeans came to the Amazon for the promise of gold. This doesn't always work, of course, as sometimes this just makes the name difficult to pronounce (My working name for the Indonesian greenhouse was Thalesab phru, still haven't thought of a better one though...)

Other times I simply make up a name that sounds similar to town names in the representative area. I noticed that a lot of small American towns often have a similar naming scheme: (Person's name), (Random nearby thing). Such as Rochester Mills, Clark's summit, Todd's corner, etc. So I named my North American forest region "Meyer's Creek".

Eventually I'll run out of cool names to use, but for now I'm gonna keep naming my regions like this
 
Something that I have done in some of my past speculative zoo design projects is naming exhibits or guest areas after locations in the region (like a country or an ecoregion) my project is based on. This could be a national park or a nature reserve, a specific region within a country, a river, a mountain (range) or something else.
