Exotic Animals as Pets in New Zealand

To me, keeping primates as pets is a terrible thing. Today I came across some listings for Capuchin and marmosets for sale as pets. I was shocked to see that they were both in - New Zealand! I thought this would be illegal in New Zealand as there are so many reported incidents reported about zoo animals, e.g. escaping from their enclosures and staff members taking a sick monkey home to care for it (http://www.parliament.nz/NR/rdonlyres/710B9709-12C5-4722-9510-743809574A90/88847/DBHOH_PAP_15964_5576.pdf). I also found listings for stingrays and Galapagos tortoises. Again, I thought that the trading of these exotic species would be illegal (especially; as pets, and in New Zealand).

those are internet scams (and aren't even from NZ scammers). They have been around for a while and are all bogus. You send them money, and get nothing in return. At least some of them work by some sort of search function: I often get them if I google, say, "banded rail Auckland" and a site will come up for "birds for sale in Auckland: banded rails for sale in Auckland"
