What's your favorite souvenir you've gotten from a zoo? What are some things zoos have offered that you feel are meaningful or worthwhile purchases? What has prompted you to actually purchase a souvenir from a zoo?
My favorite is a book I got from the San Diego Zoo when I visited at age 12. It wasn't just a brochure or pamphlet but a real published book with large pictures of all of the animals at the zoo and information about them. I flipped through it again and again for years. It was a great way to remember my favorite exhibits and get a chance to see some of the ones that I missed. (That zoo is huge. You're never gonna see everything.)
That said, the most recent zoo souvenir I've purchased was, in fact, the ubiquitous baby panda plushie from the National Zoo. I've been to the zoo dozens of times in my life and never felt tempted to buy panda merch or stuffed animals that I could get anywhere, but I finally did when I went to say goodbye to the pandas for the last time. I felt like I needed something to commemorate their presence in my life these last two decades.
