Chester Zoo Fey the Giraffe

CHESTER Zoo is sad to confirm the death of female giraffe Fey.


Seven-year-old Fey died on Wednesday May 27th during an operation to investigate a serious abdominal problem. Despite the best efforts of both keeping and veterinary staff, Fey unfortunately did not survive the operation.

Head of Zoo Programmes Kevin Buley said: “Understandably, staff here at the zoo, and particularly the keepers and veterinary teams who did all they could to help Fey, are extremely saddened by this turn of events.

Fey was a popular giraffe, mother to our giraffe calf Margaret and she will be remembered with affection.”

I also thought that her name was spelt Faye?

She was believed to be a hybrid. I've seen her called Fay, Fey and Faye.

Not having a lot of luck with the Giraffes are they. Very tragic.

i think on the giraffe house placard it is spelt fay.

Her name was Faye,and she was one of the pure Baringos that turned out to be a hybrid!!!

1.1 pure and 0.3 (???) not pure.

Thorn (M) and Aiofle (F) are the pure specimens

so are they going to stop breeding from the hybrids?

Last I heard they were trying to swap the individuals involved to form a new herd. And with Thorn still in the group I would be surprised if there weren't more babies from the non-pure individuals
