I visitied this Zoo for the first time last week. There were aspects of the zoo which I enjoyed. I loved the story of Otay, the Sun Bear but the bears were so hard to photograph. They move around a lot and all my shots tend to be blurry. Not the zoos fault! Good to see the bears are obviously happy, safe and breeding! I wonder where Mary, Otay's off-spring will be sent?
Great viewing area for the lions. No wire! Great for photography! I managed to get some really lovely shots. I LOVED the white lions which I had never encountered before and believe they are otherwise only at Mogo. I thought the National Zoo offered MUCH better viewing!
Also interesting to see a Bengal and Sumatran tiger displayed next door to each other giving the visitor the opportunity to realize there are differences and that tigers are not just tigers! I had never seen the Bengal before and was amazed how much bigger it actually is. You read about, but sometimes you have to see, for some of the finer details to sink in!
New penguin area opened last week with a keeper on-hand to make certain the penguins didn't escape! <g>
You could see the otters LOVED their enclosure (and so did I). The animals were a joy to watch twisting and playing in the running stream which runs through their enclosure. Very active.
Signage I thought was good and included some very interesting facts.
I read on my Facebook page that the koala was 'frisky'. Well, he/she certainly wasn't frisky the day I was there. I walked past many times and he/she didn't move a muscle. It must have been his off-day.
Personally I would have liked to see all the Aussie animals together eg. the koalas near the Australian walk through section, rather than opposite the meerkats.
Plenty of good photo opportunities. I won't be in a rush to re-visit but I still enjoyed my day.
