I know very few people in this community that keep track of fish species seen and photographed, but I'd like to make this list for those who do. My animal photo database's greatest strength is probably fish. These are all actinoperygian, sarcopterygian (sans tetrapods), chondrichthyan, and jawless fish orders and families I've seen alive, in the wild, public aquariums, fish tanks, pet shops, aquarium shops, and even Asian food markets.

Working on a fish lifelist at the moment, and I will post what I've seen once that list is finally finished!

Here’s my list it’s not complete, mainly due to me not being bothered to do cichlids and it’s also not in taxonomic order.

I used to keep a fish list until I went to the Shedd Aquarium and realized how much time that would take :D Now I just list species I view as notable at each institution to save time. Plus signage at many places is so bad or lacks scientific names, making it nearly impossible.

I have the same problem as you too, but that doesn’t stop me from making a fish list. If I see a fish with no sign at an aquarium, I take a picture of it and try to research what it is at home. If that doesn’t work I just upload it to the gallery and usually somebody finds out what it is.

I'm too lazy to write where all I saw all these fish so if you want to know where I saw a particular one, let me know :)

Where did you see this species? I wasn't aware that they were kept

Several of them are kept at SEA LIFE Kansas City Aquarium. I have a map of the aquarium and I circled in red where they are kept and I have a picture of the information sign, if you're curious :)

I reckon if you made complete lists like in the other orders and families threads that people could copy and edit to make their own it would make more sense than people just randomly posting single species lists.

Though I imagine it would still be a difficult endeavour just based on the sheer number of species and ID difficulties already mentioned.

I compiled a list of orders (families would have been a bit too much) and made note of which I have and have not seen, with one species and where I saw it. I may have missed some orders so let me know if I have.
