This week I visited the Fjärilshuset - Haga Ocean, a bit odd combination of a butterfly garden and a small aquarium. As there isn't a thread about it on Zoochat, I will post a short report about it. Photos will follow, when there is a gallery to put these in.

Fjärilshuset - Haga Ocean is located in Hagaparken in Solna, a northern suburb of Stockholm. It consists of four green houses and an aquarium building, which are connected to each other.

The first green house services as the entrance/exit, shop and restaurant. In the second green house are just two enclosures, one for Hermann's tortoises and a pool with koi carps.

The third ("Rainforest") and fourth ("Tropical Rainforest") green houses are both dominated by tropical plants with a pool in the centre of the green house. Some tortoises and freshwater fish are kept in the "Rainforest". At the back of this green hall is a section about dangerous creatures with models of a king cobra, mosquito and parasite worms, three terraria for five species of poison dart frogs, and terraria for a Asian scorpion and unspecified tarantulas. It also included terraria with very deadly and ferocious African giant snails and giant millipedes, at least for plants and fruits... The fourth glass house is the actual butterfly garden with free ranging butterflies, pond sliders (three subspecies), tricolored poison dart frogs and Chinese painted quail, as well as some freshwater fish.

Haga Ocean consists of a large bassin with grey and black-tipped reef sharks and some other fish, and a couple of smaller aquaria for fish of the coral reefs (clown fish and blue tang among others). It also included an exposition about the great white shark.
