Been to Facebook a moment ago and Flamingo Land has welcomed a new male Common Hippo and he's called Hoover who arrived from ZSL Whipsnade Zoo to join the breeding programme

So spoken to a colleague who works at Flamingo Land and she told me that he was nervous of his new surroundings to begin with but soon settled in well in his new home

Are the females (or female?) at Flamingo Park still young enough to breed though?

Is the enclosure at flamingo land big enough for more females so they can have a larger breeding pod.

So that doesn't make sense that they now want to breed. I have been to West Midlands safari and I didn't rate the hippo enclosure at all if I'm honest. Plus it is right next to the theme park area. If breeding wasn't intended then couldn't some cows from West Midlands have go to flamingo land rather than a breeding male.

Flamingo Land have acquired Hoover for breeding as I believe they may be building a new enclosure in the near future. I think WMSP acquired the castrated male to hold a non breeding group. Do Flamingo Land only have one female?

Not sure where the White Stork aviary is, but last summer when I visited, as you walk past the hippos and around the bend, they were creating a whole new exhibit there on the left, not that far from the edge of the hippo pool. It was at the start of the stretch as you walk along the path with the log flume on your left. I am not sure there was anything there before, but it was a new exhibit they were building.

I think the location is less of a problem than the fact there is only a tiny land area and the water is usually black and foetid/foul smelling. A very poor exhibit for a major Safari Park. Their Hippos would be so much better (and popular/noticed) with underwater viewing but enormously expensive of course.

Hopefully the rumoured new hippo habitat will happen and they’ll invest more into the zoo as it would be nice to have specific habitat themed areas

It’s where that new exhibit was being built it must have been knocked down and rebuilt

Has anyone heard or seen anything at all regarding the lion pride? I can’t even find any community photos of them from the past year, its been so long I sort of suspect they’ve died off.

They’re still on the website, a while ago they got a new make I’m presuming because Kumali passed away but it’s most likely theres no news about them cause they hasn’t been breeding success

1.0 Joco arrived back in 2021 from Wodburn, so they should have a small pride (him plus a few girls).
