Just an update on how the website is coming along..

Flamingo Park Zoo & Ocean World

I'm now in the middle of adding entries from my diaries and while I'm going through the pages it's certainly bringing the memories back. Did any of you ever keep a diary while working with animals? I'm pleased I did as I'd have forgotten half the stuff by now.

Excellent website, Bubbles. You've put a lot of work in. I'm looking forward to reading more as it developes.

The right hand photo of the first picture on the "Flamingo Park Zoo - Early Beginnings" page, I am pretty sure, shows Carol Petrie holding a young Orangutan. She and her husband Doug were poached by Pentland Hick from Wellingborough Zoo to run the fledgling Flamingo Park. They did a stint at Cleethorpes and St.Asaph before settling at Southport where they ran the zoo till 2004. They continue to operate the Yorkshire Dales Falconry Centre.

Why thank you Paradoxurus!:o
...and also thank you for providing the information reagarding the two people in the photograph. The story of Doug and how they went to Wellingborough is mentioned in the book I have, which was written by Francis Hick. It seems he went to work with them during October ..possibly during the Zoo's second year. Much appreciated!:)

After experiencing a lot of problems I'm having to move my Blog to a new home. It's had a redesign, but hopefully it will work better than the old one as I've had to pay for the hosting and for a new domain. However, I look forward to setting it all up and putting the stuff from my Blog onto the new one. It should only take a couple of days, the same time the domain takes to become active. I'll let you all know when I'm back up and running!:D

Just updated my website again.. Flamingo Park Zoo & Flamingo Land - Home

I'm enjoying the research as it's bringing back the memories, but it also provided me with the opportunity to find one of my colleagues that used to work with me 35 years ago. I felt like Miss Marple having tracked her down in SA! lol I didn't know she'd moved there. It's very rewarding doing the website and I can't wait to go back and visit the Zoo in May or June.
