AM - Former captors join effort to free Indian dancing bears

Conservationists in India are trying to rescue hundreds of bears kept in captivity by animal trainers.

The bears have a rope inserted through a wound in their nose and are forced to dance in roadside shows across India

I once saw a lengthy documentary on the plight of the so-called "dancing bears", and the lives that these animals have is at times horrific. Between the bears with pegs through their noses to the "bile bears" in tiny cages many Asian countries have a brutally horrendous record of animal rights abuses when it comes to such wonderful species.

People who think Dancing bears are happy must be whacked up in the head. There was article I read once that one bear went on a rampage after it was dancing for money for about 2 years. It ended up severly wounding 3 people, though they all come out alright.

yes..it happens often.but the bear/monkeys/snake shows are gng dwn gradually.people are trying their best to educate in villages... whr this practice is intervowen with religious cutom's n practies.its difficult to bring abt that change.but, things r improving.
