Fossa?

Ok, I get the impression from searching these forums that there are no fossas in Australia.

What are the odds, do you think, of seeing them here any time soon?

And if I wanted to see one, where would you recommend I go?

Even better - if I wanted to have an "animal encountere" - touch it, pat it, spend time with it - does anyone know anywhere doing this?

Chris.

I don't think there's ever been a fossa in Australasian zoos, and I haven't personally heard of any real plans to bring them in. [Anyone?]. Currently the closest fossas to you are in Japan (at Ueno Zoo in Tokyo); other than that you'll have to go to Europe or North America. Or even better, head to Madagascar and (try to) see them in the wild!

I doubt there's anywhere that does "encounter" type shows with fossas.

Are they allowed to be imported into Australia/New Zealand?

If so, a small Madagascan/Seychelles area could be formed, feature black and white ruffed lemurs (already in Aus), ringtail lemur (already in Aus), white fronted brown lemur (in Aus, phase oout tho), Aldabran tortoise (already in Aus), fossa and saltwater crocodile (already in Aus, are extinct in the Seychelles but could form an extinction exhibit).

as far as I can see, neither NZ or Australia currently has fossa on the lists of approved animals for importation
