France's Top 5 Zoos??

I asked this same question on the UK thread, so I'm hoping our French friends will similarly oblige: What are the best (Top 5) Zoos in France? I hope to come visit your nation in the next year or so, and thus I'd like some guidance where to go. Of course I know about Beauval and a little bit about the 2 Paris zoos, but beyond these 3, I don't know where the others stand in terms of visitor appeal and zoo excellence.

I know there are differing opinions and a variety of ways to evaluate what is "best" in zoos, which is why I'm asking for many different people to give their opinions. So to help me, it would be wonderful if some of you could list your 5 favorite (or 10 favorite) zoos in France. If enough of you do so, I'll accumulate your picks statistically (I'm a professional statistician) and post the results of this informal poll. Thanks!

Hello ANyhuis,

In my opinion,
1) Doué la Fontaine : to the quality of all the zoo, commitment to conservation and scenic surroundings
2) La Vallée des Singes : for animal welfare
3) Les félins de Nesles : For animal welfare
4) Beauval : for the impressive animal collection, its successes in breeding and new facilities
5) Villars les Dombes : superb collection onithologique in recent and very good installations
I also advise you to visit La Boissiére du Doré, Calviac, La Ménagerie du Jardin des plantes, CERZA, Asson et la Londe les Maures

Traditionnal big zoos in France are Zooparc of Beauval, Bioparc of Doué La Fontaine, Amnéville Zoo, Palmyre Zoo, Dombes Vogelpark, Mulhouse Zoo, CERZA ...

I visited Zoo de Pont-Scorff several years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it - apart from the strangest dromedary camel I have ever seen!! The sealion and bird shows were spectacular!! Black rhinos, spectacled bears, hippopotamus and a large troop of hamadryas baboons were also some of the highlights...

Planete Sauvage near Nantes has a decent collection of ungulates with large herds of impala, kudu, eland, blesbok, addax, springbok, lechwe etc..

The Number one in France is Beauval, just because it has - as Therabu has said - the biggest animal collection in the country (and also a few very good exhibits like that of the elephants, the gorilla/manati house, and - probably - the new asian rhino/deer exhibit.

Number two is Zoo Amnéville. Good collection, inovative (sometimes a little too inovative and immersion like) exhibits.

Number three is Zoo Doué la Fontaine (for the same reason as already said: good, spacious exhibits, good breeding groups and scenic surroundings)

Number four is Zoo de la Palmyre: Good Collection, more or less all typical zoo species.

Number five is Zoo la Flèche.

Out of the list but a must is Marineland in Antibes.
