This allows the female wallaby to space out the timing of mating and birth. #bennettwallaby #joey #bestlittlezoointexas | Frank Buck Zoo

On February 24th, the zoo announced they sexed the monkey as (1.0) and named it Brazil.

3.9K views · 163 reactions | We know it’s not Thursday, but let’s look back to right about a year ago…We were preparing to move the Red backed bearded saki monkeys into their spacious new habitat, but delayed the move due to the birth of “Brazil”. Isn’t he adorable? He is now 14 months and can be seen making full use of the troop’s habitat and even teasing the toucans next door. Red backed bearded sakis are extremely rare in US zoos. Frank Buck Zoo is one of only three US zoos that care for them. Our friends at Dallas World Aquarium entrusted us with their care. #redbackbeardedsaki #monkeys #babymonkey #TroopLife #bestlittlezoointexas | Frank Buck Zoo

On March 25th, the zoo announced that another red-necked wallaby was born which is on exhibit.

8.8K views · 480 reactions | This morning Brianna caught “Victoria” and her new joey and “Shelia” and her new joey in the same frame. If you recall our previous post about macropod diapause, you may recall us mentioning that gestation is just 29-30 short days. The males and female wallabies have been separated for right about a year. Lactational diapause occurs when a female already has a joey in the pouch. If she mates and conceives again, the newly fertilized embryo will stop developing at the blastocyst stage. The development resumes only when the older joey leaves the pouch or stops suckling frequently. Brianna #DidYouKnow #animalfacts #diapause #wallaby #macropod #bestlittlezoointexas | Frank Buck Zoo

On April 17th, the zoo announced that 3 red-ruffed lemurs were born on April 1st.

6K views · 229 reactions | April 1st “Malagasy” the critically endangered red ruffed lemur gave birth. Red ruffed lemurs give birth to litters rather than singletons, which is rare among primates. A typical litter includes 2 to 3 offspring, but up to 6 have been recorded. Unlike many primates that carry their young, red ruffed lemurs “park” their infants in nests or other safe spots while they forage. After about a week “Malagasy” shifted away from the litter and Animal Care staff were able to weigh and use nail polish to identify individuals. Please enjoy photos of three healthy offspring.
