So I was wondering what zoo/aquarium has a good collection of freshwater fish. Ofc Zoo Berlin and Shedd Aquarium come to mind, but are there other institutions that stick out in this regard ? And do they have species that are rarely seen ?

Offhand: Cologne, Innsbruck (native European fish), Den Blå Planet Copenhagen, Tennesse Aquarium, Aquatis Lausanne, River Safari Singapore, Aquatotto Gifu, Wilhelma Stuttgart.

Sydney Zoo has a reasonable collection of freshwater fish species, as does the National Zoo and Aquarium.

The Tennessee Aquarium is known for their freshwater fish collection. They have added saltwater fish over time, but they still have a great collection of freshwater fish.

New England Aquarium had a very extensive freshwater collection at one time that while mostly limited geographically to species from either Massachusetts or the Rio Negro, was extremely diverse.

Have not been back in years though, not sure where the collection is at now.

Aquarium de la Porte Doree in Paris and Zoo Wroclaw are 2 others that come to mind in Europe and Zoo Leipzig also has a diverse collection.

Thank you very much for your answers
Higashiyama Zoo in Nagoya, Japan has over 100 species of killifish, livebearers, rice fish/medakas, and more in one aquarium building.

Interesting I have never heard of that institution, I will have to look into it...
