You are reading the message of a Zoologist in the making! That's right folks, I am currently in college to get a degree in Zoology, while this is only my first year, I plan to have a PhD before the age of 27. Next year I will have an Associate's in Natural Science, Two years after that I will have a BA in Zoology from Humboldt University. From there, I am still deciding where I want to pursue my graduate school though. I am thinking University of Wyoming, but I have a list of 17 other schools I am considering. I would like to take no longer than two years to complete my Masters and no longer than three years to complete my PhD. If all goes well, I will be at that level in that time. With that degree I would love to do independent research on canids, but everyone wants that. Realistically, I am preparing myself to be a college professor while also conducting research for the University. Working at a Zoo sounds great, but pay-wise, I think a University sounds better. I do not want to have a government job however. I am into all that fall into the Animalia kingdom! My goal is to run a research institution (for animalia species) that doubles as a wildlife park. I am 18 (I know, but I don't look or act it) from California. I joined here to share my love of animals since I know nobody who is as crazy for them as me. My current favorite animal is the African Wild Dog. I have 3 dogs, 1 Crested Gecko, 3 aquariums (one of them being a reef tank, the other two planted). I work at a burger joint (hate it) and am trying to be a camp conselour at the LA Zoo for the summer at least! Wish me luck!
Origin story:
It all started at age 5. I read a lot and told my family (at this young age); "When I grow up, I want to be a zoologist, ichthyologist, or paleontologist". I was then given a Gameboy Advanced and was introduced to Pokemon Red. I was in love instantly. The thought of a Professor (Oak) studying creatures living in their world documenting them in a Pokedex and collecting them attracted me. It was at that moment, I wanted a zoo. A collection of my own little monsters that I could study. I follwed that dream and over a decade later my dream has not faltered. I still play pokemon. I still love animals. I still am going to study them. I love animals more than any other hobby in the world. Thanks guys

Welcome FrightyDog! :)

Good luck with your studies, there are several members who are current students, and most members love animals, so you should fit in very well. :D

I am intrigued by the idea of doing a BA in Zoology, it doesn't seem a particularly art-y subject. Is there a reason you are not doing a BSc, or is it just the way things work in the US?

Sorry, by BA, I just meant Bachelor's Degree, It is a BS, but I tend to call everything BA's. And yeah I joined because I never found a place that loved animals like this site, so I was really excited.
