After seven years of absence, Fukuoka zoo has received 1.3 elephants from Myanmar in July. The elephants are 22 (0.1), 14 (1.0),12 (0.1), 3 (0.1) years old.

In August the youngest elephant has escaped three times on the 18th, 20th, and 23rd.


On the morning of September 10th the zoo unfortunately lost the twelve year old female. Despite showing EEHV symptoms the zoo was not able to determine her cause of death.

How sad and what a sorry loss of a potential breeding cow elephant.
 
This event does call for an investigation post-mortem into the present (and direct pre-existing health conditions not discovered previously) health status of the 12-year old cow as the timeframe and time passed between import in July and her passing within 2+ months from import does leave a few questions open to further data collection and review.
 
Any other news coming in from Fukuoka Zoo on new developments or births/hatchings or new exhibits and animals arriving?
