I found a couple of chucklers in the descriptive text on the Alameda Park Zoo (New Mexico) web site. The gaffes appear here in italics (my alteration). Click this -- About the Zoo | Alamogordo, NM -- if you want to see the originals in all their glory.
"With a mission to promote education in the environmental fields of study, conservation, recreation, and biological research, the zoo connects humans with animals through audio, visual and tactical experiences."
And, further down the page, below the zoo map:
"The intended concept is to instill through audio, visual, and tactical means, a unity of non-human and human relationships."
As I wrote to the zoo when I Emailed them about this: While I could see the paintball or paramilitary crowd getting excited about a "tactical" experience with the animals ('Revolt against the keepers' day?), the image of a lemur in camo/combat gear is a bit of a mind-bender.
Thus was born the idea for this thread. I'd be curious to hear if other Zoochatters have found similar gaffes on a zoo or aquarium web site. If so, did you notify the place in question? What was the response, if any?
Best of the holidays to all...
