Gaur in the uk

Until around 5 years ago, there was a single animal in the paddock behind the sambar (not on exhibit). It could occasionally be seen if you were viewing the sambar/ lower elephant yard. It was listed on www.isis.org, and then disappeared, suggesting the park no longer holds this species. The animal information they supply on their site is a few years out of date in some cases (eg. malayan tapirs kept at both collections).

Until the pair arrive in Edinburgh from Madrid zoo, it is safe to assume that the only gaur in the Uk are the pair at Whipsnade and their calf.

thanks for the info.
seems strange for them not to update their information on the web site thats where most people look i would believe maybe its a cost thing.

went to Edinburgh zoo in June was hopeing they where going to have them but they did not but thats a good reason to go again:):)

I didn't know Edinburgh were getting them. Where will they be going?

Not sure where or when they will be getting them but i had a email saying they will get them and Kulan which they have shown on their map up by the Bactrian Camels did not see any in June tho.

I think there new species as part of the master plan

Ah great. Thanks :)

No confirmation when or even if they will be arriving at all (thanks to blue tongue restrictions), i always thought the current addax would be better, as there are no forested paddocks at the zoo.

Maybe Gaur are a species that Port Lympne wish to continue to maintain in the future, hence leaving the listing on their site.
