Chester Zoo Gemsbok and oryx

Hi, I am a new member. I will be mainly posting on Chester zoo. Have they started breeding Gemsbok and why are the Scmitars off show?
 
The gemsbok have bred in the last couple of years (may have been last year) but am sure someone else will be able to tell you exactly when.

Not sure you can delete a thread yourself, you would have to ask Mod, or Sim (Creator of the site).

To delete a post, go to the bottom right of your post. There should be an "edit" button click this and then the button that says "go advanced" then you will be able to delete the post in the options there.
 
I believe they have bred this year. The last offspring before the current youngsters was born in 2007 but did not survive. They also lost 1.2 adult animals in 2007, hence the arrival of 1.0 last year. I believe there are currently six individuals.

Gemsbok bred at Chester. It's more than I realised.

I certainly did not realise it was that many!
 
There were 3 births in 2008. I think that they all survived. The father of all 3 is/was called Casper and was born at Whipsnade in 2003. Not sure of sex's sorry.

Can you provide your source please? The annual report for 2008 shows 0.3 at the start of the year and 1.0 arriving. The total is 1.3 at the end of 2008. This would equate with the current listing of 1.5 with two females born this year. I can't remember any babies in 2008, but this does not mean there wern't any.

Pt123 said the breeding prior to this year was in 2007 was a male which did not survive which is the same information I have.

Sorry I made a mistake. The births I was thinking of were the 2 females born this year. My source was the Z magazine although at the time of writing I didn't have the article to hand. They were in the Spring 2009 edition on page 7 for anyone who wants to look. ( I thought it was the Winter 2008 issue!) I apoligise for my mistake. :o
 
Okay, it's not as bad as my first mistake when I told everyone that Chester had a baby elephant. I was only a year too late. Thanks for clearing up the mystery.
