Yes, I remember the Militarys at Natureland. Wonder what happened to them? I also, as a child, remember seeing a pair of Sir Edward Hallstrom's Militarys in, of all places, David Jones department store in Sydney one Xmas, on temporary display.
The Natureland pair went to Lord McAlpine I believe. After that, who knows? Possibly into private hands. David Taylor could know.
Sir Edward had several pairs as I recall. Possibly some of his still survive but would be post breeding age now.
According to NEBRS, at 13 June 2000 the population was:
Military Macaw -1 holder had 5 birds
Hyacinth Macaw - 5 holders kept 13 birds
Red-fronted Macaw - 4 holders kept 10 birds
and I made a mistake in an earlier post
Buffons Macaw - 1 holder kept 2 birds.
These figures are a guide only because 174 holders had not reported their holdings and many of these are likely to have been Macaw keepers.
