Marwell Wildlife Getting there by public transport

Is it possible to get there via public transport from London on a Sunday? I'm guessing the best way is train or national express to Winchester then a taxi. Any thoughts on how much a taxi would cost or if there is a better way?

Thank you!

Well, now. Winchester is the most logical way to go, but I'm miles from there so can't really given any advice from there. I believe there is a free minibus service, run by the zoo, that goes from the station and back again hourly. More information, I'm sure, is on Marwell's website.

You could also go to Fareham train station and then walk to the bus station (about ten minutes) before then getting a bus up to Marwell. But then, the bus has stopped running for the winter and the bus fare is beyond expensive. I think it's about £7ish.

So yeah, I would recommend a train to Winchester, and then getting their minibus service.

Sorry, thats Eastleigh station:

'Bus departs from Eastleigh railway station for Marwell Wildlife at 10.25am and every hour until 5.25pm

Bus departs from Marwell Wildlife for Eastleigh railway station at 10.45am and every hour until 5.45pm'

Never mind, thanks for this anyway. I'm feeling a bit more adventurous after going to Whipsnade so maybe I'll give it a go!

One of Marwell's bugbears is it's lack of public transport. There is still one bus a day (NOT sundays though) via Blue Star from Eastleigh railway station.

According to google maps it should be only about 15 minutes by car, so a taxi from the station may be your best bet.

Most days you can get a direct train from Waterloo to Eastleigh (journey takes 1'20-1'30), but I think there are engineering disruptions this sunday, so it would take longer & need a couple of changes. Sunday 11th October looks ok though, if that's any help!

Thanks for all this info. It's all very complicating weighing up national express v the train and factoring in taxis and buses. I think the train to Eastleigh then a taxi looks like my best bet.

Stagecoach bus service 69 runs from Winchester via Marwell on a Sunday (ONLY Sundays-the rest of the week it does not). I don't have a current timetable but I'm sure you can find it on the internet.

A cab from Winchester to Marwell will probably cost you about £15-£20 each way. I live just down the road and have done the journey by cab a few times.

That Stagecoach 69 is the one I get from Fareham, going towards Winchester. And it now no longer goes via Marwell because it is now on it's winter timetable. When it changes back to summer timetable (which I believe was about February time this year), it goes to Marwell again.

Such a stupid time to change 'summer' and 'winter' timetables.

I'm going to leave this one for a while. it's looking easier to get to Antwerp and the total cost is about the same!

Dont be discouraged entirely though.
I will vouch for Marwell that it is entirely worth a difficult journey.
:)

Feel sorry to hear about all these complicated journeys; makes the twenty-minute drive in the car feel selfish!

And I agree, definately worth it though.

Lol, I'm looking forward to learning to drive because it means I get to spend longer days there, and also on weekdays, which can be quieter.

I have to only go on a Sunday and get about... four hours maximum before having to get the last bus. And I know thats plenty of time to go round a zoo I had been going round weekly, lol, but I do miss being there right in the early morning, right at the start. That was something I loved about my time at Exmoor last year. Seeing it really early, before the visitors arrived.

Also, when I had my job interview at Marwell, I was there for about... half an hour before the park opened. When walking to the education centre, everything from the Capybaras to the Rhinos would take a lot of interest in you cause you're not normally there.

Wow. I just went off on a random path there.

I find the more I go the longer I want to spend anywhere!
