Giant Panda Becomming More Popular?

Basle Zoo in Switzerland is also interested in giant pandas. It would be interesting to know, what Berlin Zoo will do after Bao-Bao's gone....The zoo will not get a new permission to keep giant pandas in the present old glass cube, on the other side, the zoo has not the money or the space to build a new panda house with two outdoor exhibits. On the other side, there is a present discussion to keep Knut at the Zoo to start another polar bear breeding group at the zoo, a second for the zoo, and a third for the city. Ask the people what they want, new giant pandas or Knut, I bet, they would decide to keep Knut at the Zoo...

it was mentioned in a newspaper article that both colchester and london were looking at giant pandas, wether this comes to fruitition is another matter entirely as it was only faintly hinted at :), this is all on the giant pandas for london, thread

I'm just as intrigued to see the new crop of giant panda exhibits, as in the U.S. I have visited all 4 zoos with pandas and was only really impressed with one of the habitats. I was at all 4 within a time frame of about 4 weeks in 2008, and Atlanta, Memphis and even the San Diego enclosures are average and far from spectacular. The National Zoo in Washington D.C. has the fairly new (2006) renovation and expansion of their multiple panda enclosures and that zoo blows the other three out of the water in terms of quality of exhibitry for its pandas. Can Adelaide, Edinburgh and Oakland provide fantastic homes for their future marquee animals or will they face cost-cutting economics and have to settle for only average enclosures?

The site for the proposed giant panda exhibit is the current musk deer, goral enclosure and the adjoining Visayan warty pig enclosure.
This area of the zoo is on a fairly steep slope but heavily wooded and in my opinion the ideal habitat for a giant panda, all that is probably needed is some running water to make a feature with some sort of pond.
I,m sure the enclosure would have to be split and there is the addition of decent indoor housing for the pandas, with decent viewing for the public, whilst taking into account private off-show areas for the pandas too, which i am quite sure will be prerequisite for any zoo.
As well as plenty of opportunities for the public to "contribute" to the panda survival fund through gift shops and food outlets.

Here is the proposed location for the enclosure
