Zoo Miami Gibbon issue at Zoo Miami

Apparently there is or was a video of a gibbon at Zoo Miami banging its head on the glass of its exhibit. I heard about this months ago via comments on several of the zoo’s Instagram posts, and then they made a post about the gibbon to ensure they’re taking care of the issue. I recently saw some comments on Zoo Miami’s posts on some other app telling the zoo to do better or send the animals home, referencing the gibbon. Does anyone know where this video is? I can’t find it anywhere. I know Miami is one of the best zoos in the US, and just visiting there days ago, I didn’t even see where glass could be at the gibbon enclosures. I’m just hoping this doesn’t hurt them.

Sounds like fake news, at least it seems weird to me. Afaik, there is no glass at the exhibits of the gibbons (unless that has changed recently), they live on (2) islands...

I’m not in the business of linking to others’ social pages, but searching “Zoo Miami Gibbon” on TikTok will show you the video clip. It’s hardly aggressive, and as the zoo has explained, it’s not a stereotypy they’ll be able to eliminate because it originates from her being hand-raised without her mother.

The glass in the video is a viewing window in the orangutan exhibit as they have been putting two of the gibbons in there to attempt a mixed species exhibit. I believe this is also because they are trying to isolate the gibbons on the island for breeding.

Went and checked my work on this so to speak and it’s now too late for me to edit my last post.

Just to clarify, Millie (the female gibbon shown in the video) was moved with Cuong to the orangutan exhibit for breeding and gave birth in September. She was not moved off the island for another pair to breed.
