Well it is indeed very exciting having these female Girafes:D. I certainly look foward to them breeding.

But could someone please write a list of all the Girafes that have been at Colchester over the years.

I'd like to know the group of Girafes as well as the Elephants.

Also can anyone remember the origanal Girafes at Colchester? I'd love to hear some information about them. I do know that their house is where "Dragons of Komdo" is now. And the yard being behind the house. They did feature in my 1970s brouche of which I have.

I do rember the 1 eared Girafe but can't reember his name.:o

The old Girfe house I think was going to be the origanal plans for the new Orangutan indoor area with the yard and a bit extra for the outdoor area?

Not sure re the Giraffe that were at colchester in the old house as I'm too young to remember :p

Kingdom of the wild was built, there have been 7 Giraffe, including the present 5. The other 2 were Neo, who died January 07 and Killian, the giraffe with 1 ear who died in November 05. Ed,Koife, Century, Lily and Isha are the present Giraffes that make up the 7.

Also yes they were going to use the old giraffe house for the Orangs but couldnt get permission to cut down some trees

Thank you Roz for that list. :) I didn't particulaly gather that there's been 7 Girafes at Colchester Zoo since the time of "Kingdom of the wild".

I belive it was Jew tress that were growing in that site but presumbebly not in the old Girafe yard itself.

It'd have been interesting to have known what the new exhibit for Oranutans would have been like there. I suppose there'd have been lots of trees yet most of them probably would have had to have been hotwired.

I'm sorry if I come across as unpatient but can anyone at all remember these Girafes? Are they in any studbook?

I suppose they may have only been at the zoo for a couple of years as I know their house had kept other animals in it until it was finally demolished. I don't even know whether my broshe was from the 1970s as it doesn't say. But the pictures are in colour but the way its written is certainly not how it would be done. Very little conservation message:( and it even mistaked Lions for being the largest cat!

I don't think they kept their original giraffes for long. The outdoor yard became the old siberian tiger compound and the chimpanzees occupied the house, with a small cage out the other side. The original giraffes left I think at the end of 1982 or had died out by then.

Thank you johnstoni:) when you say with a "small cage out the other side" do you mean that the house was sort of extended to for room to be made?

Has anyone got any pictures of the chimpanzees whilst they were in the old girafe house? I'd be very interested to see them.
