Port Lympne Wild Animal Park giraffes and zebras at port lympne and howletts

Howletts I believe does not have any giraffes or zebras, but Port Lympne has giraffes and zebras on the African Experience. I think they have 4 Grants zebras and 3 Grevys zebras.

You are correct there, but Port Lympne definitely have Giraffe's and Zebra's on the African Experience.

Port lympne has Rothchilds giraffe, as far as I know its a herd of 5 with a baby born in 2006. The zebras kept are Grants and the possibility of one other sub species..

P.L. has 4.1 hybrid giraffes (I think they were thought to be pure baringo giraffes when they aquired them), the female will leave in 2009 and they will hold an all-male-group with a maximum capacity of 8 animals. Which is great, because the EEP needs holders which keep single-sex-groups of hybrids and purebred males which are not currently needed for breeding.

all the males are hybrids.
They have one pure rothschild female named amber from longleat and her son (she was pregnant on arrival) called Karamoja

Are they planning to breed Rothschild giraffes now then? I'm aware the male she was supposed to come with died en-route. It seems a waste to keep two pure specimins if they arn't going to breed from them (ie, send one out of the collection and get in another male/some more females).

You are correct that Amber is pure but from what I have heard Yassa is correct in that she will leave collection to join another collection holding just pure Giraffes, while Port Lympne will hold 1 the largest Batchelor Herds of Giraffes in Europe.

Just wondering if this group has had any problems, as the whole group of 4 bulls and just one female are all kept together and most places only keep one male at a time with the females...

Not that i know, they have the same situation at Whipsnade and they`ve not had any problems.

Amber went to Flamingo Land to join their group of hybrid females

I was always of the perception she is a pure bred rothschildi (coming from Longleat means good breeding).

Is Amber now reclasiffied not pure-bred?
(that would surprise me)

There's now a question mark regarding the purity of the late Longleat female, Jolly. During her lifetime (late 80's, early 90's? to September 2008) she produced 10 calves, One of which was Amber. From what I understand the majority of collections holding her calves have been advised by the studbook not to breed the affected individuals for the forseeable future.
