Giraffes in zoos

I think I remember reading somewhere that all or maybe most "reticulated" giraffes in zoos are really hybrids? Are there any pure, and what are they mixed with? Also I know there's Masai (I only heard of retic and masai being in captivity, at least in the US). Anyone have more info on this?

North American Giraffe Species

This thread should help you with your questions, I wondered myself as well before and this helped me find out more :) I think the majority of the generic giraffes in the US are a mix of Reticulated and Rothschild Giraffes for the most part.

According to Zootierliste the situation in Europe is slightly different - there are currently no Masai giraffes but there are seperately manged populations of Rothschilds and Reticulated giraffes, and a smaller population of Kordofan giraffe as well. There is also a currently still large population of generic giraffes but these are slowly being phased out, although some are still being bred.
