Some good news about local Golden Eagles in Czechia. In 2020 season, 3 pairs with nests were found! The highest count in more than a century. At least two of them laid eggs. I have my fingers crossed for more than 1 fledged chick.

Current count is - 3 pairs in Czechia, cca 140 pairs in Slovakia, 30 pairs in southern Poland and 4-5 pairs in nothern Hungary.

and in the rest of Hungary and Poland?

The rest of Hungary is treeless flatland and has no Golden eagles. The only place in HU they nest is in the north at Slovak border in Zemplén mountains and it´s offshoot of montanous Carpathian population.

(Carpathian population is distinct both genetically and by style of life from both Baltic and Alps populations, it nests on old trees in mountain slopes, has strong kainism instinct (older sibling kills the young one on nest), and hunts oportunistickly everything under cca 3 kg - they kill a lot of birds of prey, owls, ravens, pigeons and small predators like martens, foxes and wild cats, and survive on carrion during winter (usually rests left from wolves, lynx).)

Northwestern Poland has 2 pairs of Golden eagles, near Baltic sea coast. But they belong to different ecotype of lowland Baltic population (south Sweden, east Denmark, Gotland, Finland, Estonia, Latvia).

Northeastern Poland has no Golden eagle pairs anymore. That area is used by limited number of young and adult birds to overwinter only.
