This is my first post on Zoochat. I am very excited to be apart of something unique like this! I currently am a volunteer and the Dallas Zoo. I work in the Middle Wild of Africa exhibits on the monorail side of things. I work behind the scenes with some extra ordinary animals. We care for Gemsbok, Oryx, Scimitar Oryx, Gerenuk, Thompson's Gazelle, Bongo, Addax Gazelle and Greater Kudo. I am a little late to the game, I'm 27 and am enrolled in my second year of college (paying for it myself
). I am pleased to say that the zookeepers I work with are a major insperation for what I'm doing today. I just attended my first Zoobiology course which was quite fascinating. I now how a fire under my butt to eat up as much information about the animals I work with and spread the message of conservation. The Scimitar, Oryx, Addax and Bongo are very endangered species. I am learning about how SSP works and would like to be a part of that one day. I have had previous experience with Arabian horses, Quarter horses, Thoroughbreds, Zorses, Zebra, Camel and Mules/Donkeys. I know my way around a barn, just not quite the exotic barn yet. I've been volunteering for 2 months and hope (in about a year or so) to have a job at the Dallas Zoo!!!!
