Following a petition and lawsuit by the Center for Biological Diversity, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service today denied Endangered Species Act protections to the eastern population of gopher tortoise. The eastern population of animals are found in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and most of Alabama.

“Denying gopher tortoises the protection they need to survive is indefensible,” said Elise Bennett, Florida director and an attorney at the Center. “It ignores devastating urban sprawl that’s decimated the tortoise’s habitat and will continue to drive the species ever closer to extinction.”

At this point, their incompetence is just laughable. At first, they used to be a force to be reckoned with in conservation, protecting bald eagles, american alligators, etc.

Now they've managed to turn themselves into one of the wildlife conservation world's biggest rear-end crunching dumpster fires. It's no wonder other countries don't go to us for advice on how protect endangered species.

At one time, the American model of wildlife conservation was the gold standard, the world's role model if you will, now nothing could be further from the truth. They now seem to be puppets of big business and industry, like every other agency. These agencies need to be the watch dogs of industry, but now they seem to be their submissive lapdogs. This corruption and legalized bribery is absolutely horrifying and apalling!

Even worse, this incompetent wildlife agency isn't the only one like it. Now, the Indonesian government now controls population studies on endangered species to control thought of the public so they can cater to the interests of destroying wildlife habitat. Given their incompetence, I wouldn't be amazed if the usfws started doing that.

Yeah, I heard about the situation in Indonesia! That is scary... Especially with the severity of climate change and biodiversity loss!
