Hey again guys.
Just another, what do you know about this place? I'm looking to buy Brown Capuchins off them but would like to know how the capuchinsd there live and are treated. Any help would be great

Thanks

Gorge Wildlife park is quite a nice park in the adeliade hills... They have a private breeding facility there for breeding exotic and australian birds which probably helps to supplement the park or vice versa....

I think I know the animals you are talking about.... their current display is made up of a couple of LARGE octagonal aviary like enclosures with pleanty of ropes tree branches etc to climb around on.. they seem to have a vast array of fresh fruit and vegetables given to them daily...

This isnt a "natural" open style enclosure but still appears to have plenty of stimulants to keep them active...

hope i have helped...

The capuchins at Gorge originally came from Melbourne Zoo many years ago from a somewhat inbred population. The animals at Gorge are likey to be very related to each other, and the rest of the population in the country.

Gorge Map

I went to gorge yesterday,
There is a map at the bottom of this post.
The Primates there are, Brown and Tufted Capuchins, Ververt Monkeys, Black Handed Spider Monkeys, Common Marmosets (off exhibit), Japanese Macacques, 3 White Handed Gibbons and last time i was there there were also Squirrel Monkeys. Other exotics (excluding birds) are Black Leopards, Boas, Alligators, Otters plus the huge collection of birds. All the Pheasant aviaries also contain Kookaburras (1 albino). They also have quite a nice pair of Common Rhea and the Nicest Javan Green Peafowl i have ever seen.

If anyone has any more questions about the park i can try to answer them

No, i didnt see any bison, or any deer, the biggest things mammals were the sheep in the kids zoo.

thanks ben, nice to finally get a proper idea of what this zoo is like. i'm guessing maybe the black leopards came from melbourne, a few years back they did have a pair, then suddenly both disappered off display. could be an explaination....

the white-handed gibbons came from melbourne, and the last time i saw an inventory of the melbourne zoo collection they were still listed as "on loan" to gorge.

my guess is that the vervets came from perth just recently also...

yup, the black leopards were from Melbourne Zoo, but a long, long time ago. They were a pair of siblings, hand-raised at Melbourne.

yeah i always do that - i'll say "the other day" when i mean last month, so "a few years back" could be decades ago!!!

in that much talked about barlow document, it listed "african leopards" as a viable. are these or any other leopards in australia purebred africans? and if not does anyone know the methodology behind what species were "viable" and what were not? since if their are no african leopards in the country how can they be "viable" over another "unviable" species such as jaguars?

i am not sure, but i belive bullen may have some.

will find out asap, as im going there lol sucked in!!!

Gorge has 1 Black Leopard on display a really nice and freindly cat, its not a great exhibit, but it works, its similair to exhbits seen in big cat rescue centres in the USA

This is news to me.

And it seems like they have been there a while. I am hoping to visit this wildlife park when I go to Adelaide at the end of this year or the start of next year.
