Zoo Atlanta Gorilla attacks barrier at Zoo Atlanta, prompting evacuation

I changed what I wrote above a little, as of course, I can't be 100% sure that Gorilla actually remembered me. Was he just reacting each time to a visitor(me) that he took a dislike to? I'm still pretty sure it was memory though.

At least some apes have a very good memory when it comes to particular people-and react accordingly. Maybe some will remember Bokito's "Great escape" of 2007, and the circumstances...

Regarding big cats & children: sometimes, all it takes to attract a predator is to appear little & harmless. However, especially in younger specimens I would regard such behaviour as playful interaction to fight boredom and to practise hunting behaviour playfully-just like snatching at falling leaves or playing with a ball.

The vet at Zoo Atlanta is a woman. There is hot wire separating the Glass observation area from the Gorillas. Taz went through the hot wire to get to the glass pane. The zoo needs to keep this woman away from the gorillas.

No. I'm not a vet. Just a concerned tax paying citizen and member of Zoo Atlanta. The zoo has an army of vet techs and if there were ever anything seriously wrong with one of the gorillas, they can bring in a vet from the University of Georgia. They do that anyway, if they have to perform a dangerous surgery on any of the animals.

So you think the Atlanta Zoo should not have any zoo veterinarian? And that your zoo membership and the circumstance that you pay taxes (like probably everyone here, unless underage) entitles you to that opinion?...:D

Indeed, you're most certainly not a veterinarian. And you apparently do not have the foggiest notion of what a zoo vet does. Maybe you should put your membership to better use and ask for a meeting with the zoo vet. Or you could employ what is left of your income after paying your taxes to buy some copies of Murray FOWLER'S zoo medicine books. Afterwards, you might want to treat the gorillas on your own, as leader of the infamous "Atlanta zoo vet tech army"... One way or another, it might enlighten you why the lady in question can't refrain from "your" precious gorillas as you wish...

Some US Zoos aren't subsidized by Taxes.

The Zoo needs to keep their vet away from Taz since there is obviously a problem.

You're avoiding my questions, @clm1950, and just dishing out gibberish.

What "obvious problem"? Great apes often do not like their vets and show this in an apparent way. This rings true for practically every zoo keeping them.

You obviously have no clue about the necessity of a permanently employed zoo veterinarian for a major zoo such as Atlanta-and for animals such as gorillas. Maybe you should take up my previous advice and meet the zoo vet in person to change your opinion. Otherwise-good luck treating them by yourself, "zoo vet tech army leader"...

Of course, so what were you saying when you declared that you are a tax-paying citizen?

This is a very knee-jerk reaction to this incident and not very creative a response. A "shoot first and ask questions later" response.
Zoo management and zoo staff cannot be so backward thinking. First it needs to be determined that there is an issue that needs addressing and what it is. Then a response can be devised. Perhaps it will be concluded that there is a special antipathy for that vet .. but that is unlikely.
