ZooChat members based in London may be interested to know that the Grant Museum of Zoology (University College) is now open every Saturday afternoon from 1:00pm to 5:00pm.

This fascinating museum, on the corner of University Street and Gower Street, is a few minutes walk from both Euston Square and Warren Street tube stations.

Specimens on exhibit include a quagga skeleton, a thylacine skeleton, a thylacine preserved in spirit, a Javan rhinoceros skull......

Well worth a visit.

That is ever so nice! The GMZ is a small gem hidden amongst UCL' university campus and indeed well worth a visit.

Excellent news; I am actually going to be in London - primarily to visit the zoo - shortly, but unfortunately this is on a Sunday!

But it is good to know the place is open for whenever I do visit the city on a Saturday ;)

I've only visited once at its new site but it's most definitely worth a visit for anyone even remotely interested. Thanks for posting the Saturday times, Tim.

Just visited Grants Museum of Zoology, it was very interesting and worth a visit. Also worth a look is the Hunterian Museum, lots of opportunity to examine and compare the anatomy of many different animals, also has skeletons of solitaire, dodo, thylancine and a 7’ 7” man! One of the best museums I’ve ever visited Hunterian Museum — The Royal College of Surgeons

I also really like the Hunterian, which I tend to twin with at least one more local museum (usually Sir John Soane's Museum - just across Lincoln's Inn Fields). I imagine it's very easy to spend entire days wandering around that fascinating little area of London.

Ned what's a solitaire I've tried to look it up but just keep getting the card game!

Close cousin to the Dodo, resident to the Mascarene island of Rodrigues.
