Has anyone been to this place? They have one of the best cat collections in America, including perhaps the only african wildcats. I am not sure when I can get there, but I am eagerly awaiting a firsthand report and photos. Can one of our Northwest friends help me out?

Never even heard of this place, but if anyone had been there, it would be Snowleopard. However, from the sheer number of cats there, it sounds more like a sanctuary than a zoo; albeit one open to the public as many of them are to raise funds.

I've never actually visited, but it is similar to "Wolf Haven" (in the state of Washington) in that it specializes in one type of animal. Wolf Haven has about 50 wolves, while Great Cats World Park has about 40 cats, and both have faced controversy in recent years. GCWPark was fined $10,000 for violating the Endangered Species Act (check out its Wikipedia page) and I can remember reading about that in the local newspaper. I envision seeing lots of chainlink enclosures with a wide variety of cats, and for 4 months of the year (November - February) the park is barely even open. If you are a cat lover then it would be worth seeing close to 20 different species in one location, but one could always do that at the Cincinnati Zoo and still watch hundreds more species.:)

I went to the website and all of the cats that are listed there can also be seen in the san diego zoo, along with many other zoos throughout the world. I don't see what is so special about this place.

It would be hard to find all of these in one place. Here are the cats on their list that you CANNOT see at San Diego Zoo:

white tiger
siberian tiger
bengal tiger
amur leopard
black leopard
ocelot (unless they have one in a lousy exhibit in the children's zoo?)
african wildcat
geoffroy's cat
clouded leopard (taken off exhibit in SD over a year ago)
caracal (also taken off exhibit in SD)
