Hello all! Longtime lurker here, finally had the time (with social distancing/work from home) to sign up and post.
I have always loved zoo, I now live in Waco Texas. Come visit our lovely Cameron Park Zoo when this world returns to normal. I love reading about and seeing all the comments here, I have easily visited over 100 zoos and aquaria in the USA and around the world.
Some favorite zoos/aquaria include:
Cameron Park Zoo (Its not the best ever but its my "home" zoo and remarkable for a city our size)
Taronga Zoo in Sydney (gets my vote for most scenic zoo anywhere)
Bronx Zoo
San Diego Zoo
National Zoo in DC
Houston Zoo
Dallas Zoo
National Aquarium in Baltimore
New England Aquarium
Texas Aquarium
Dallas World Aquarium

Anyhow, if you find yourself passing through central Texas let me know..I'd be glad to tell you other things to do/zoo/wildlife resources in our area.

Glad you signed up. Texas is indeed a zoo rich state with some of the best. I agree that Cameron Park Zoo is well beyond the stature of what I expected from a small town like Waco (I felt the same way about Caldwell Zoo in Tyler). I wrote a chapter on Cameron Park Zoo in my 2014 book Zoos of the Southwest. In it I also stated that Dallas Zoo is the best zoo in the southwest. With other greats like Fort Worth and Houston you are (as I said) in a zoo rich state.

Thank you all for so many lovely greetings! I forgot to mention a zoo very dear to my heart: The Pittsburgh Zoo, which is delightful all on its own, but was also where I got engaged and married!
Interesting. I know a lot of zoos do weddings now, but I wonder if there are any other ZooChatters that have done it? And bonus points for doing the engagement as well there.

When you were in Pittsburgh did you get a chance to visit the National aviary. It’s one of my personal favorites.

Welcome to Zoochat! I've visited the Cameron Park Zoo (in 2017) and I agree it's a really nice zoo.

Welcome to Zoochat! How was Taronga Zoo? Which exhibit was your favourite?

Thanks--I have always liked penguins and wanted to have something I liked to look at if she said no. Thankfully, she said Yes! Plus they were already in tuxedos...
