griffith park mountain lion

This is the second time within the last few years that I've heard of a Mountain lion roaming Griffith Park. And to make it all the way into the middle of L.A., the local news stated that it would have had to cross the Golden State Freeway. There is a resident wild deer population in the park of somewhere around 200, and plenty of smaller game like rabbits and squirrels.
Griffith Park is huge. To give you a size comparison, New York City's Central Park is 840 acres. Griffith Park dwarfs that at 4,310 acres, for many years the largest municipal park in the US. So you can imagine there is plenty of room for a Mountain lion to hide.

Yes and there are also at least one (but maybe more) small dirt underpasses under the freeway for equestrians. The horse stables are across the freeway from the park where are the horse trails are. It would be very easy for a mountain lion to go through that at night when no one uses them. Of course he could also cross the freeway itself I suppose in the early hours of the morning (like 3am) when traffic is very light.

I use to ride through those equestrian tunnels back in the 1970s, and considered that possibility as well. And riding into downtown Los Angeles on a bus to work everyday, we cross the Los Angeles River; in several areas it is quite narrow in places, with the river no wider than maybe 10-15 feet. Which would be very easy for a cat with incredible leaping abilities to cross. Certain banks are covered with thick vegetation.
