According to this page,It was in 1966.A buyer finally appeared for a female one-and-a-half-year-old baby elephant that was being sold at a bargain sale of animals held on the rooftop of the Matsuzakaya Department Store in Ginza. The price was 1.2 million yen!
The buyer is a 60-year-old man who runs a hotel and amusement park on the island of Guam. However, he had already purchased 50 species of elephants in Japan, including orangutans, giraffes, turtles, and cranes, in addition to baby elephants, for the purpose of establishing a zoo on Guam. What zoo is this?
