Gumbuya Park have welcomed four Mountain Pygmy Possum joeys (more joeys are expected in the near future as well).
MOUNTAIN PYGMY POSSUM UPDATE

We have successfully bred our MPP’s again this year with at least 4 joeys (and more on the way) that have emerged from the nest.
This young Joey was a bit scared of the moth, but Mum came to the rescue to help

A few notes from a visit to Gumbuya World recently. This will detail changes since the last review posted by astrobird.

- In the critter cave one of the exhibits was being fitted out for a tiger snake which will be the first venomous species at the park. Interestingly while the exhibit was not yet inhabited it had been fitted with labels showing how exhibits are designed making it still interesting to view.
- A new aviary have been established in the entrance area before the start of the Wildlife Trail proper. It housed an amazon parrot and golden pheasant.
- The mountain pygmy possums are on display in a small nocturnal house. This is accessed through the farmyard area and has a single enclosure. We took part in the pygmy possum encounter where we got to hold one of these animals. During this we found out that around 20 possums are housed in the enclosure at any one time providing a great show as they all moved around when the keeper went in to collect one.
- Another new enclosure is being built near the aviary and koala enclosures but there was no information as to its future residents.

It is good to see Gumbuya World continue to develop their animal offerings alongside the theme park with all enclosures at the park being some of the best I have seen for the species housed inside.

A few updates from social media - some exciting developments for Gumbuya Park:
  • the park's first ever Goodfellow's Tree-Kangaroo has arrived from Taronga Zoo - the young male was bred in 2020 and named Taro. This creates 14 holders for the species among Australian zoos and he is on display near the koalas. They stated in the post it is hoped that he will be the first of several new exotic species.
  • a new free-flight bird show has been introduced to the park. Species shown include Eclectus Parrot, Yellow-crowned Amazon Parrot, Blue and Gold Macaw, Rainbow Lorikeet and Tawny Frogmouth.
