Galloway Wildlife Park

I have to agree well worth a visit down there was impressed with the changes it had made to the collection and in times like the recession it does good to support smaller wildlife parks to visit and help their goal in the role of conservation and lastly congratulations to the park in the recent spate of births looking forward to going down again . :)

A pair of Siberian weasels have arrived from Hamerton, also newly arrived are a pair of Reeve's pheasant.

Reeve's pheasant, although now critical, even back when working at Homsley Wildfowl, we were breeding these and selling them at £26.00 a pair and that was back in the mid 1980's...nothing new in reeve's...;)

Maybe not, but still news;)

not 2009, but 2010 news, a north American tree porcupine has been born at the park.

Does anyone know what's going on with dhole at the park? I'd not really heard much about Galloway WCP until seeing this thread but I went had a look at the gallery and ISIS. Apparently there's one female dhole, is she the last remaining member of an old group or the start of a new one? Just wondered what the story was there?

Seems a nice place for a small zoo. The website news section seems to show they're involved in various conservation programmes etc. and that they have supported in-situ conservation efforts. I suppose you expect that from the big zoos, but from a little place like this I think its a really good effort.

The dhole is the last remaining member of an old group, as GWCP is looking for a new blood group or replacing for European Wolves when they plan to build a new enclosure in the future.
