Today I participated in a thread regarding euthanasia of healthy zoo animals, a new member Malayan Tiger, who I understand is a teenager also posted on this thread questioning the culling of Marius the giraffe earlier this year at Copenhagen Zoo. This member a teenager obviously has strong views on man's views on animals, he is of the opinion that we are all sentient beings and should be all treat accordingly, perhaps this young member was merely using zoo chat to vent his/her own personal opinion at an age when one is very much finding one's way in the world. Malayan Tiger has, in my opinion been treat very badly here on zoo chat, patronised by a school teacher on holiday for using capital letters in his/her posts, later told by a MODERATOR of zoo chat that zoos are not just run for this person to admire the cute and cuddly,and it was suggested that someone so young, although entitled to his opinion being so young did not really know what he/she was talking about. OK, I am 51 years of age, I have been associated with animals all my life and the people connected with them, this includes zoo directors, zoo keepers, circus animal trainers, dog breeders etc, I also like Malayen Tiger am not comfortable with at times man's patronising "they are only animals, we are superior humans" attitude, I think this member has been treat very badly by zoo chat, if perhaps some on here were a parent themselves with a teenager they would perhaps be a little more understanding towards some one who obviously has a great deal of respect for animals, shalom .
