Hello all

Just recently discovered this site when browsing for pictures of Prague Zoo and i must say i wish i had found it years ago.
I am a zoology graduate who unfortunately does not use my degree in the profession i have found myself in (pathology).

Hello Phil, welcome to zoochat, hope you will be able to contribute to the site with all your zoo visits under your belt.
Look forward to hearing your opinions on Edinburgh zoo and HWP.

Visited Edinburgh between Christmas and New Year on a cold crisp day (practically had the place to ourselves) and i think the place is moving in the right direction.
Very impressed with the chimps, enchanted forest, penguins and living links.Rainbow Landings despite being slightly unispiring from the outside does provide a great animal experience.
Very dissapointed with the cat dens-i thought moving the amur tigers would have seen the start of a period of redevelopment/expansion.I personally think the largest cat that should be displayed in them should be ocelot sized.
The monkey house is also begining to look very dated.I know that well furnished cages can be better for the animals than some modern open topped enclosures but they have drill in there and they surely should be displayed an imaginative enclosure to full effect(a living links style enclosure would be great/? redevelop the old gorilla house).
The Masterplan looks great and it certainly is exciting times,so only time will tell.....
As for the HWP i visited in my youth after going to Loch Garten for the ospreys,so can not really comment although thinking of going up there for a weekend this spring/summer calling in at Edinburgh on the way back.

Welcome to zoochat. My thoughts on edinburgh were pretty much the same.

I would be interested to know what parts of kenya you visited.

Went to Tsavo East,West and Shimba Hills on a 3 day safari (i wanted to go on a longer one but was on honeymoon so had to compromise!).Saw the big 5 plus much more-definately want to go back.Visited a nature park in Mombassa where our beach hotel was-think it was called Bambouri?-which had giraffe, hippo, crocodiles and other ungulates in a suprisingly pleasant woodland setting.

Thank you, sounds great. Although i would have liked to, we didn't get to Tsavo, instead we visited samburu/buffalo springs, aberdare, nakuru and the mara. I heard about bamburi but we couldn't go as it was just before the unrest so we stayed in the hotel.
