Hello all! My name is Alex and ever since I was a kid I've been a huge zoo-fanatic! Growing up I loved going to my home zoo (the Bronx Zoo) and whenever my family would travel we'd be sure to go to the zoo in the area. Luckily my family fell in love with the weather in San Diego of all places...

I'm 27 now and have visited 90 zoos and 17 aquariums throughout 14 different countries. Now when I travel I often plan my trips around what new species I can see in the zoos of that area. I've even used Zoochat as a tool to accomplish this. Over the summer I just did a trip in which I went to 30 zoos in 3 weeks spanning 7 countries in Europe. My goal is to amass photographs of as many different mammal species as possible. Mammals have always interested me more, often have the best exhibits for photography and aside from rodents and bats are pretty manageable as a Class of animal.

I stumbled across this website at the beginning of this year and have been lurking ever since. But I shall lurk no more! I'm excited to share my interest and whatever knowledge I can offer with all of you. But most of all I'm looking forward to share some photographs from my travels. Photography is my favorite part of zoo-ing, and if I forgot my camera I'd probably rather not even go. I'd just be torturing myself the whole time thinking of all the great of pictures I was missing out on.

So once again thanks for all the hours of zoo-browsing you've provided me with. I hope to be a more vocal member of this community from now on.

Welcome, I hope you can provide some great pictures.

Oh I sure hope to! Any requests? Specific animal or Zoo? I'm about to post the list of zoos I've been to. Unfortunately anything I visited before 2008 wasn't on a digital camera...but I have taken tens of thousands of pictures digitally too :).

Have you ever been to Kansas City, St. Louis, Omaha, or Sedgwick County? I am looking forward to pictures from any zoo. I think you will fit in great here. I usually take about one thousand pictures when I go to the zoo, which is every week. Do you have some pictures of rare animals? I suppose you do since you've been to 14 countries.

I just posted my Zoo list, and I've been to St. Louis and Omaha but unfortunately that was pre-digital camera so those photos aren't on my computer yet. I do have many rare animals, mostly mammal species. I have photos of about 750 different mammal species, so if you had any personal requests where I could start I'm all ears. Haha I've hit the 1000 mark at a few of the bigger zoo's I've been to. On my Europe trip of 30 zoos this summer I took 8500 pictures total.

Those would be the two I would expect. Do you have some kind of way of cataloging your photos? I cannot really think of any requests, I would like to see them all. Better get started uploading :)

Great to see your new posts Giant Eland. That's what ZooChat is all about! Looking forward to viewing your photos as well.
