Hello everyone! Came across this site while planning a Zoo road trip. Somehow I linked to one of Snow Leopard's Reviews and I was hooked. I guess my home zoo would be the Alaska Zoo a few blocks down the road, although the Beardsley Zoo and Bronx Zoo were my hometown zoos growing up. Fond memories of the Mystic Aquariaum and the Catskills Game Farm (RIP).
I don't work in a wildlife field, but my jobs here in Alaska have included monitoring Human/wildlife interactions between people and most of Alaska's megafauna, with the goal of keeping both safe.
Zoos I've visited:
North America-
Alaska Zoo, Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, Alaska Sealife Center, Honolulu Zoo, Wakiki Aquarium, Portland Zoo, Henry Doorley Zoo, Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch, San Antonio Zoo, Abilene Zoo, Dallas Zoo, Ft Worth Zoo, Wildlife World Zoo, Oklahoma City Zoo, Little Rock Zoo, Baton Rouge Zoo, Memphis Zoo, Nashville Zoo, Knoxville Zoo, Montgomery Zoo, Zoo Atlanta, Virginia Zoo, National Zoo, Great Adventure Safari, ZooAmerica, Paws-n-Claws Wildlife Park, Bear Mountain Zoo, Bronx Zoo, Central Park Zoo, Beardsley Zoo, Catskills Game Farm, Mystic Marinelife Aquarium, Roger Wlliams' Zoo, Buttonwood Zoo, Stone Zoo, Franklin Park Zoo, Southwick's Zoo, Zoo at Forest Park, Benson's Animal Park, York's Wild Kingdom.
Asia-
Ueno Zoo, Tama Zoo, Yokohama Zoo, Odiwara Zoo, Fussa (?) Zoo, Naha Zoo, Deagu Zoo, Seoul Grand Park Zoo
Europe-
Dublin Zoo, London Zoo, Paris Menagerie, Olemense Zoo, Hans Sur Les Wildlife Park, Plackendale Zoo, Antwerp Zoo, Beekse Bergen Zoo, Noorder Zoo, Artis Zoo, Rotterdam Zoo, Koln Zoo, Opel Zoo, Aachen Zoo, Gangelt Wildpark, Hellenthal Wildpark, Hanau Wildpark, Frankfurt Zoo, Burger's Zoo, Amersfoort Zoo, Apeldoorn Zoo, Karlsruhe Zoo, Stuttgart Zoo, Munich Zoo, Nurnberg Zoo, Duisberg Zoo, Dortmund Zoo, Altwetter Zoo, Heidelberg Zoo
Africa-
Mombasa Wildlife Park
I enjoy Zoos.
I'm also a fan of the "Re-wilding" Concept. Be it large herbivores in Holland or African Antelope and Asian Deer in Texas, Camels in Australia, Wolves in Yellowstone, or Wood Bison in Alaska...I lean (outside of small islands) towards allowing wildlife to find it's niche....talking to you Burmese Pythons!
If I had one wish? I would remove Feral Mustangs from federal lands in the United States (with the exception of the Pryor Mountains Herd) and replace them with Pzewalski's Horses. I leave the Burros alone, though selectively releasing some Somali Wild Asses into the American Gene Pool would be good. That's me, prepare thy slings purists!!!
Looking forward to meeting everyone.
